Two Family Pets die in early morning fire in Kewanee

Kewanee firefighters responded to a structure fire around 5 AM on Tuesday, July 7th, in the 1100 block of Rockwell Street. Crews arrived to find heavy flames in the kitchen area of a two-story home. Officials say it was initially unclear whether anyone was inside, but the resident was later confirmed to be away at the time. No injuries were reported. Pets were found in the home; one dog and one cat died, and another cat remains missing. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Kewanee Police and the Kewanee Community Fire Protection District assisted nine firefighters at the scene for about two hours.
