A police chase in Kewanee last night ended with the arrest of a 24-year-old Kewanee man, charged with weapons, battery, and drug charges. Jacques Nile was captured in Fairview Homes after he fled on foot from the vehicle in the 300 block of May Street. The incident that prompted the pursuit was a report of Nile brandishing a firearm at another individual at Walmart, located at 730 Tenney Street. The incident occurred around 8:45 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Officers were given a description of the suspect, the vehicle, and the direction of travel as the vehicle left the Walmart parking lot. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the 300 block of East South Street and witnessed the suspect briefly exit and re-enter the vehicle on the passenger side. The vehicle fled from officers, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit.

Officers recovered a backpack belonging to Nile. Inside the backpack was a loaded .40 caliber Glock Pistol, which was later identified as stolen. The search also yielded 66 alprazolam pills, a digital scale with suspected cocaine residue, a yellow t-shirt that matched the description of Nile’s closing during the incident, and $9,262 in United States currency.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and questioned about the incident. The driver told police that Jacques Nile had assaulted her by hitting and choking her inside the car before police attempted a stop on the vehicle. The driver also said that Nile threatened her to not stop for the police. The driver was released without charges at this time. Nile was transported to the Henry County Jail Sunday night.
