A Kewanee man will remain in jail following an incident where he is charged with choking an 8-week-old puppy and assaulting his girlfriend. Brandon Adams, 26, has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty, domestic battery, and possession of methamphetamine. The arrest followed a police response on November 11, 2024, to a complaint at Lakeland Terrace, where video evidence showed Adams choking a puppy and assaulting his girlfriend.
According to the press release, “The video footage revealed Adams grabbing an eight-week-old puppy by the throat, appearing to choke it, and then handling it violently by its legs before dropping it to the floor. Adams was also seen picking up the puppy by its head or neck and forcefully throwing it into a couch.”
On November 12th, the Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office formally charged Adams with Animal Cruelty (Class A Misdemeanor), Domestic Battery (Class A Misdemeanor), and Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 Felony). The Class 3 Felony carries a potential sentence of 2 to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for November 25, 2024, at 1 PM.
