Kewanee Man Gets Six Years in Prison for Robbery and Probation Violations

A Kewanee man was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for robbery and probation violations. Ronald Calloway was sentenced to three concurrent prison terms for robbery and probation violations for the arson and domestic battery plea agreements. Calloway must appear within 180 days of release from IDOC to make payment arrangements. Judge Hathaway entered a recommendation for drug and behavioral treatment while in the IDOC.

Case 2023CF347: Calloway was sentenced to six years in IDOC, followed by one year of Mandatory Supervised Release (MSR), day-for-day credit, credit for time served, a $75 fine, plus assessment, and a $500 Public Defender fee, for Robbery. He was sentenced to 364 days in the Henry County Jail for Animal Cruelty. On October 31, 2023, Kewanee Police were dispatched to Franklin Street for a battery. Ronald Calloway had entered a residence and struck the male subject and a dog with a pole. The homeowners were not home at the time but told Police that Calloway told them he battered the victim and the dog. Calloway stole the victim’s ID and Social Security card.

Case 2023CF126: Calloway was sentenced to six years in IDOC, followed by four years of MSR, day-for-day credit, and credit for time served, for domestic battery. Calloway failed to be home for a home visit and failed to attend a domestic battery class.  He also failed to provide court services with his current address, and his whereabouts were unknown. The IDOC sentence is concurrent with 2022CF250 and 2023CF126.

Case 2022CF250: Calloway was sentenced to six years in IDOC, followed by one year of MSR, day-for-day credit, and credit for time served, for arson. Calloway failed to seek anger management evaluation and treatment. The IDOC sentence is concurrent with 2023CF126 and 2023CF347.

Calloway was originally charged with Robbery (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Battery/Deadly Weapon (Class 3 Felony), and Cruelty to Animals (Class A Misdemeanor) for 2023CF347. Resisting (Class A Misdemeanor) for 2023CM189. Calloway pleaded guilty to Damage to Residential Property by Arson (Class 2 Felony) on November 17, 2022. Calloway pleaded guilty to Domestic Battery/Other Prior (Class 4 Felony) and violation of Probation for Arson on August 23, 2023.
