Kewanee Man Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison for Weapons and Drug Possession

Danny Stanley is one of the five people arrested during the investigation into the shooting of a residence on South Grace Street in January 2023.  Danley Stanley was a passenger in a vehicle that was circling the block while a house on Park Avenue was being searched. His son, Justin Stanley, lived in the house being searched and was also arrested on weapons and drug charges.  Danny Stanley accepted a plea deal on January 18, 2024, that sent him to prison for 11 years.  Stanley pleaded guilty to Count 4 for Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Count 5 for Possession of Meth <5 Grams.  For Count 4, Danny Stanley was sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), followed by six months of mandatory supervised release, plus fines and assessments.  For count 5, Stanley was sentenced to four years in the IDOC, followed by six months of mandatory supervised release and a $75 fine.  Count 5 is served consecutively with count 4, for a total of 11 years.  The remaining counts were dismissed by the state.  Stanley must report to court services within 180 days of release from IDOC to make payment arrangements for the monies owed.

Danny Stanley had a loaded extended handgun magazine in his pocket containing approximately 27 rounds of ammo, and he had been sitting on a 380 semiautomatic handgun in the car.  Officers also seized $2,146 in cash on Danny Stanley’s person.  Danny Stanley was arrested for weapons and 2.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine located in the vehicle.

Danny Stanley was originally charged with Armed Violence (Class X Felony), Possession of a Weapon within 1000 Feet of a Public Park (Class 3 Felony), Possession of a Weapon within 1000 Feet of a School (Class 3 Felony), Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony) and Possession of Methamphetamine less than 5 grams (Class 3 Felony).
