On May 10, 2023, the Kewanee Police Department was called to the 700 block of Florence Street for a disturbance and gunshots.  Witnesses identified Jacob Dailey as the individual who fired two shots at a vehicle driving on Florence Street and fled the scene. An occupant in the vehicle at the time of the shooting told police that the driver of the vehicle and Dailey had a disagreement earlier.

At an address on Ridyard Street, officers located a loaded 9mm Ruger semi-automatic pistol containing rounds consistent with the shell casings recovered in the 700 block of Florence Street. Dailey and the 16-year-old male juvenile were arrested and transported to the Kewanee Police Department. From there, Kewanee investigators were able to obtain and execute a search warrant at the home of Jacob Dailey. There, Police located several more weapons and ammunition, including a loaded Ruger 9mm semi-automatic pistol with the serial number defaced, a break-action 12 gauge shotgun, a Savage Arms 410 shotgun, a Glenfield .22 caliber rifle, and a Marlin .22 caliber rifle.
