Only manually propelled options are now allowed, with pedestrians given the right of way on all walking paths at all times. Officials say this decision follows repeated incidents of irresponsible and disrespectful behavior by some visitors, prompting the stricter enforcement. The Park District is currently evaluating similar restrictions at other city parks, considering factors such as complaints, observations, and the number of visitors. Community members spotting violations are urged to contact the Kewanee Police Department.
“Effective immediately, the use of motorized OR electric scooters, bikes, golf carts, skateboards, OR any other device that is not manually propelled is prohibited at Windmont Park. Further, PEDESTRIANS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY ON ALL WALKING PATHS in all situations.”
