Kewanee Police Department Holiday Traffic Enforcement Results

The Kewanee Police Department, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation and other state law enforcement agencies, has successfully concluded its “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which ran from December 13th through January 2nd. During this period, aimed at curbing impaired driving during the holidays, the department reported significant enforcement results. Three drivers were arrested for impaired driving, two were arrested for criminal offenses, and five received citations related to seat belt violations, speeding, and distracted driving. Chief Stephen Kijanowski emphasized the campaign’s dual focus on enforcement and public safety, highlighting its role in preventing potentially fatal accidents by removing impaired drivers from the roads. This initiative, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, highlights a continued commitment to safer driving practices.

“We can’t stress it enough: Impaired driving is a deadly gamble,” said Chief Stephen Kijanowski. “It’s illegal, it’s irresponsible and it puts lives at risk – yours, your passengers’ and everyone else’s on the road. Campaigns like ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ empower us to address this issue directly and send a clear message. If you’re under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or anything else, don’t drive.”

“This effort isn’t just about enforcement,” said Chief Kijanowski “It’s about protecting lives and ensuring every celebration ends safely for everyone.”
