Kewanee Residents Concerned with Tree Branch Hanging on Utility Lines at W. 6th and Rice Streets

SHARE NOW

In a recent development concerning public safety, local authorities have addressed concerns about a tree hanging from utility lines on W. 6th and Rice Streets in Kewanee. Several posts on social media over the last two weeks have sparked concern regarding a large tree branch hanging from utility lines, partially over the sidewalk and in the road. Although the tree does not belong to the city nor is it located on city property, city officials are attempting to coordinate its removal. According to City Manager Gary Bradley, they have contacted Frontier and are allowing the responsible parties time to resolve the hazard. Should the responsible parties fail to act, the city intends to undertake the removal itself and will seek reimbursement afterward, which could be this week. The timeline for this operation depends on several factors, including manpower availability, equipment readiness, and favorable weather conditions. Community members are advised to stay clear of the area until the issue is resolved. One nearby resident said he contacted the city and Frontier and was told Frontier would send someone out this week.

Residents and visitors are advised to contact the City of Kewanee if they see hazards like this to ensure the city has been officially notified of the situation. Call City Hall at 309-852-2611 or stop by at 401 E. 3rd Street.
