The Kewanee Area United Way is once again stepping up to ensure children’s success through its Shoes for Kids Program. After launching in 2024, the initiative provided 250 pairs of shoes to local schoolchildren. This year, with a fundraising goal of $14,000, the program aims to support approximately 350-375 children, now including 7th and 8th graders. Breedlove’s Sporting Goods will supply quality shoes at cost, maximizing the impact of donations. KAUW is contributing $3,000 initially and matching up to another $3,000, with Kewanee Rotary offering an additional $1,000 match. This initiative highlights community support and aims to alleviate some burden for families, ensuring more children walk confidently into their classrooms.
You can support Shoes for Kids by responding with a donation when a volunteer contacts your business, sending a check to Kewanee Area United Way PO Box 426, Kewanee, IL 61443, or donating online at www.kauw.org.
“We are very excited to be able to continue this program in 2025. We are grateful to the businesses and individuals that participated in the launch of this endeavor in 2024. And…we are looking forward to your support this year.”
