The Kewanee Police Department took on the Kewanee Life Skills Boilermakers in a basketball game today, and the Boilermakers won again for the second year in a row. The Life Skills Basketball Team won 39-37 against the KPD “Dunkin Doughnuts”.  Both teams had their new basketball jersey shirts on this year, and the players and students enjoyed the spirited game. The Kewanee High School Band, Cheerleaders, and Pom Poms supported the Life Skills Boilermakers during the assembly and game.  The students, teachers, and spectators cheered the Boilermakers to their victory.  You can watch the game and the assembly here. Deputy Sovanski from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office deployed the drone, which entertained some students in the stands when they felt the air as the drone flew overhead. Congratulations to the Life Skills Team and excellent work by both teams.  The Life Skills Team won last year, which was the first year for the game, 54-51. We can’t wait to see next year’s game.

Chief Stephen Kijanowski of the Kewanee Police Department said, “We played a hard-fought game with good teamwork, and I thought we could pull out the victory at the end, but the Boilermakers were just a better team.”  Chief Kijanowski jokingly said the refs weren’t watching the same game that was on the floor, and he hopes for a better crew next year.  After all, Chief Kijanowski played the role of “angry player” very well when he threw his headband on the floor after a call from the refs.

Kewanee High School Principal Mrs. Rebecca Baney said, “We would like to thank the Kewanee Police Department for their spirited competition versus our Life Skills Basketball team. Thank you to the Henry County Sherrif’s office for supporting the event as well. We could not have had such a special event without the daily efforts of our dedicated life skills teachers and paraeducators and the support from our KHS teachers, students, basketball players, band, cheerleaders, and pom pons.”
