Knox County and Galesburg Police Provide Resources to Assist Macomb Police and Wounded Officers

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Galesburg Police Department provided mutual aid to the Macomb Police Department after two officers were shot while serving a warrant. Upon hearing that two Macomb Police Officers had been shot while attempting to execute a search warrant in the 300 block of North Normal Street, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Galesburg Police Department immediately deployed mutual aid and provided assistance at the scene.

Sheriff Harlan and Chief Russ Idle also responded to the scene and assisted the Emergency Operations Center. Twenty officers from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Galesburg Police Department, the Galesburb Drone Team, the Galesburb-Knox County Strategic Response Team, the Mobile Command Center, and a Tactical Resource Vehicle responded to the scene in Macomb.  Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police also responded to OSF St. Francis in Peoria to provide assistance to the wounded officers arriving at the hospital.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Galesburg Police Department worked with Illinois State Police, US Marshalls, and the agents from the FBI to assist Macomb with additional resources on the critical incident. Mutual aid was also provided by several other surrounding counties and cities.

The operation is an example of Law Enforcement working together providing assistance to each other and assisting with keeping the community safe during a critical incident.”
