Governor JB Pritzker has named Kristi Jones as acting Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Kristi Jones brings over two decades of experience, having served as Deputy Director since 2020 and holding several key roles within the department. Her leadership has spanned local food system development, animal disease management, and support for disadvantaged farmers. IDOA Director Jerry Costello II praised Jones’s deep policy expertise and strong relationships across the agricultural sector. Jones’s appointment awaits confirmation by the Illinois Senate and coincides with a renewed spotlight on women’s achievements in agriculture, both in Illinois and around the world.

Kristi Jones brings an impressive educational background to her work, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communications and Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s College of Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences. She furthered her expertise with a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Illinois Springfield. Jones lives in Springfield alongside her husband, Brian, and their daughters, Hannah and Sydney. Her academic achievements and dedication to her field underscore her commitment to both education and public service, making her a valuable asset to the Springfield area and beyond.

“Kristi’s policy knowledge is second to none,” said IDOA Director Jerry Costello II. “I have relied on her leadership and experience as Deputy Director, and without a doubt, she will continue to excel as Assistant Director.”

“Kristi brings a unique perspective after serving in multiple roles throughout the department,” Costello added. “As a graduate of the College of ACES with 20 years of experience in the industry, she also has an extensive network of resources and has built strong relationships across state agencies and with ag partners.”
