The Wethersfield School Board approved a new Head Coach for the boys Basketball team for the 2025-2025 school year. On Thursday, April 11th, Kyle Galli officially moved up to Head Basketball Coach from Assistant Basketball Coach. Kyle Galli is a Wethersfield graduate and is ready to lead his team into the future
Kyle Galli said he doesn’t intend to make many changes to the basketball team. He said he has learned a great deal from Coach McGunnigal while coaching with him the last few seasons. “Coaching at Wethersfield has been a lifelong goal of mine. Ever since I graduated it had been a goal to get into coaching and hopefully one day run my own program at Goose Island. I’ve been lucky to learn under some very experienced coaches during my coaching and playing days. I have a very good support system going forward, and feel confident that I can do this job at a high level, and bring success back to the program,” said Coach Galli. Coach Galli said that Coach McGunnigal has been very helpful during the transition to head basketball coach. Coach Galli said, “The one thing I would like to do is get the community more involved, and get them excited about Geese basketball again. I remember the days of watching guys like Ben Nelson, Jason Angel, Trevor Lay, Coltin Quagliano among many others, and had the opportunity to play with Nathan Kohler. There was a different feeling walking into the gym when those guys were playing. I want to bring that same excitement and energy back to the school, and with the players coming up these next few years I think we can do that. In short, I want our community to feel like they are a part of this program. When we win, they win.”
Wethersfield Athletic Director, Tom McGunnigal told RegionalMediaNews.com ,”I am very happy for Kyle, our student-athletes, and for our school. Kyle has been a great friend to me ever since I arrived at Wethersfield. I look forward to working with him and assisting him in leading our boys basketball program however he may need the help. He is going to be a tremendous role model for the boys in our program and I believe is going to continue to grow into an excellent basketball coach. He is a Geese through-and-through and that, along with what I know about him as a person, makes him a great choice for our Head Boys’ Basketball Coach.”
Coach Galli spoke about goals for him and his team, “All I ask of my guys is that they play hard every night whether we are up 20 or down 20. I want us to be a respectful, disciplined team that is fundamentally sound. As for goals as a coach, I want to get back to competing at a high level, and being in the conversation for a Regional Championship every year. It’s going to take a lot of time and dedication, but I am willing to do what is necessary to make this a successful program.”
Congratulations Coach Kyle Galli from your friends at Regional Media News!
