Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation’s Land of Smiles wrapped up its program in Kewanee, bringing lessons on oral hygiene to 125 young students at Irving Elementary School. The free Land of Smiles initiative uses lively characters, including Captain Super Grin and Terri Tooth Fairy, to entertain and educate pre-kindergarten through third graders about the importance of dental care, nutrition, and regular checkups. With 22% of Illinois third graders experiencing untreated tooth decay, the initiative aims to tackle this widespread health issue. By the end of the fall, this free program will have visited 110 schools, providing over 25,000 students with oral health kits and essential dental care tips.
