The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up seat belt enforcement as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign, running from May 16th through May 27th. Officers will focus particularly on nighttime hours, aiming to improve safety when non-compliance rates tend to be higher. Illinois’ current seat belt usage stands at 92.4 percent, yet authorities are determined to close the gap and ensure everyone is buckled up. The campaign emphasizes that wearing a seat belt can mean the difference between life and death in a crash. Residents are urged to comply and avoid fines during this heightened enforcement period.
“Seat belt use should be an automatic habit for everyone,” said Sheriff Adam Diss. “It’s not just safe; it’s the law. During this campaign, law enforcement agencies will be working together to ensure the message reaches all drivers and passengers. Buckling up is the simplest way to reduce injury or save a life in a crash.”
The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For more information on safe driving practices, visit ItsNotaGameIllinois.com.
