MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois women’s basketball team released its 2023-24 season schedule. The Leathernecks will face eight of the 11 non-conference opponents at Western Hall. In conference play, WIU will play an 18-game schedule
“Scheduling presented some unique challenges this year with our move to the OVC, but we were able to put together a great schedule filled with regional foes and some big-time programs,” coach JD Gravina said. “An early-season game against Wisconsin and a home game against Northern Illinois will be exciting for fans, and I’m also looking forward to playing some of the closer Summit League teams. This schedule will help us prepare for conference play in a league that presents several different playing styles.”
WIU opens their season with three out of their first four games at home, welcoming the Mount Mercy College Mustangs on Nov. 6 for their home opener before heading on the road to take on the Badgers of Wisconsin on Nov.9th. WIU returns home on Nov. 12th and 15th, taking on Northern Illinois and Hannibal-LaGrange.
The Leathernecks head back on the road to take on Valparaiso on Nov. 18. Western Illinois returns home for four straight games hosting Stephens College on November 20 and Chicago State on November 28.
WIU welcomes back former Summit League opponents St. Thomas and Omaha on Dec. 2nd and 5th before traveling to Kansas City on Dec. 10.
The non-conference schedule ends on Dec. 21 as WIU hosts Cornell College inside Western Hall.
Western Illinois starts Ohio Valley Conference play on Dec. 31, traveling in-state face-off against Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
After a quick one-stop road trip, WIU welcomes Southeast Missouri State (Jan. 4) and Lindenwood (Jan. 6) to Western Hall for the first two OVC matchups inside Western Hall.
The Leathernecks will hit the road for the third weekend of conference play traveling to UT-Martin on Jan. 11 and Eastern Illinois on Jan. 13. WIU will travel back home on Jan. 20 to take on Tennessee State.
WIU hits the road for a four-game road trip traveling to Southern Indiana (Jan. 25), Morehead State (Jan. 27), Lindenwood (Feb. 1), and Southeast Missouri State (Feb. 3)
WIU finishes their regular season playing six of their last eight games inside Western Hall. They start with Arkansas-Little Rock (Feb. 8) and UT-Martin (Feb. 10) before traveling to the state of Tennessee to square off with Tennessee Tech (Feb. 15) and (Feb. 17).
The final four home games will see Western Illinois face off against Morehead State (Feb. 22) and Southern Indiana (Feb. 24) before welcoming in-state rivals Eastern Illinois on Feb. 29 and Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Mar. 2.
The 2024 OVC Women’s Basketball Tournament is slated for March 6-9 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
