The Illini gained an early lead in the third inning with a solo home run, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Western Illinois attempted to mount a comeback in the second inning with Cesar Franco’s leadoff double, but they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

The game took a decisive turn in the fifth inning when Illinois broke it open with a seven-run surge, extending their lead to 8-0. They further widened the gap in the sixth inning, adding four more runs to solidify their dominance at 12-0.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Western Illinois showed resilience in the final innings, managing to score a lone run. Justin Jang loaded the bases, setting the stage for Max Slavens to drive in the sole RBI with a groundout to first base.
