Macomb Man Arrested For Threatening Family With Knife and Harming Dog

MACOMB, IL – Early Wednesday morning, Macomb Police responded to a call of domestic violence in the 1200 block of E. Carroll St.

According to reports, Timothy L. Smith, 39, of Macomb, had been threatening his wife and children with a knife, and at one point, grabbed and pushed them around the house; allegedly keeping them under his control and restraining their movements for several hours. The family members fled the house after they believed Smith had harmed the family dog.

On arrival police surrounded the house and eventually coaxed Smith out, placing him under arrest without incident.

The family members and family pet are currently in a safe location. The community is asked to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Smith was charged with 2 counts of Unlawful Restraint, 2 counts Aggravated Assault, 2 counts Domestic Battery, and 1 count Cruel Treatment of an Animal. This remains an active investigation and there is no active threat to the Macomb community or surrounding communities.
