Macomb Woman Arrested For Stabbing, Killing Husband

MACOMB, IL – A Macomb woman was arrested early Tuesday morning after stabbing her husband during a domestic dispute.

According to reports, Macomb Police officers were dispatched to 1680 Wheeler Circle in Macomb on Tuesday morning around 5:45 a.m. for a report of a man who had been stabbed. On arrival, the officers found Rickey L. Haymer, 27, lying on the floor with a stab wound and immediately rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived to perform life-saving measures. Haymer would be transported to McDonough County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:55 a.m.

During preliminary investigation, it was determined that Haymer’s wife, Portia M. Garrison, 28, had stabbed him during a domestic dispute. Garrison was arrested and transported to the McDonough County Jail, charged with First Degree Murder.

Their children were in the home at the time of the stabbing and were taken into protective custody.

The residence and hospital room that Haymer was pronounced dead in have been secured as part of the investigation, which remains active.

Macomb Police have stated that there is no active threat to Macomb or the surrounding communities.

All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
