A major winter storm is moving into the region tonight, bringing what could be the heaviest snowfall many areas have seen in years. Snow will begin late this evening, intensifying through Saturday, with totals expected to exceed six inches across the region. Some localities may see up to a foot before the storm tapers off early Sunday. Blowing and drifting snow is likely as southeast winds gust to 30 miles per hour, making travel extremely hazardous. Those needing to be out on the roads should drive slowly and allow extra time to reach their destination. Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve. According to the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities, “This is likely to be one of the biggest snow producing storms in a long time for many areas, as well as being a huge event to start the winter season.” Follow the NWS of the Quad Cities Facebook page for regular updates.
