Man Charged with the Murder of Jimmy Hollins II Appears in Court Today

The 43-year-old man charged with the first-degree murder of Jimmy Hollins II is in the custody of the Henry County Jail and appeared in court today.  Jose M. Valentin was arraigned on the murder charges against him and a Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for April 8, 2024, at 2 PM.  Jose Valentin is charged with Murder/Intent to Kill/Injure (Class M Felony) and Murder/Strong Prob Kill/Injure (Class M Felony).  The State filed a petition to deny pretrial release; the detention hearing has been continued to April 8th.  Valentin remains in the custody of the Henry County Jail.

On Sunday, March 24, 2024, Kewanee Police received a call for a male with a gunshot wound lying in the road on Houle Avenue.  Jimmy Hollins II, 31, was shot in the neck and was declared deceased at the scene, despite life-saving measures by police and paramedics.

The Kewanee Police Department worked with the Henry-Mercer Investigative Task Force, comprised of the ISP Zone 2 Division of Criminal Investigations, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Aledo Police Department, FBI, Galva Police Department, Stark County Sheriff’s Office, and ISP Crime Scene Investigators, to conduct interviews, gather evidence, and execute search warrants during the investigation, leading to the arrest of Valentin.
