Peoria Police responded to a stabbing on West Virginia Avenue, where Denarius M. Barnett, 37, was pronounced dead. His brother, Jeremy Barnett, 31, claimed self-defense and has not been charged. Police reports indicate that in the 24 hours preceding the incident, they were called four times regarding aggressive behavior from Denarius. The altercation ended when Jeremy used a kitchen knife to protect himself, leaving him with marks consistent with strangulation.
