Authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred on January 16th on the Illinois River Bridge along Route 89 in Putnam County. A person reportedly jumped into the river from the bridge. Despite a swift and extensive rescue effort involving state and local police, fire departments, and EMS teams, the individual was recovered from the water at approximately 4:46 PM but sadly pronounced dead later at OSF St. Elizabeth in Peru.
Assisting the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were Standard Fire Department, PC EMS, Spring Valley Fire Department, 10/33 Ambulance, MABAS Div 25 Water Rescue Team, Spring Valley Police Department, Bureau County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois Conservation Police, Bureau County Emergency Management, and Ladd Fire Department.
This incident is under investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office.
