Man Killed in Quincy Shooting Raised Firearm Toward Deputies

QUINCY, IL — A man was killed late Thursday afternoon after he raised a firearm towards Adams County Sheriff’s deputies.

According to reports, deputies responded to a 911 call of a suicidal subject at the corner of 5th Street and West Radio Road in Quincy. Upon arrival, a short foot chase ensued, ending in a field a couple hundred yards away when the man drew a firearm and pointed it at the deputies.

Officers discharged their firearms, struck the man, and then attempted to render medical aid to the man who would succumb to his injuries and perish on scene.

According to Adams Country Sheriff Tony Grootens, there is no video of the incident as Adams County deputies are not currently equipped with body cameras.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing and being handled by the Illinois State Police Department of Criminal investigations. The name of the deceased has yet to be released, and the names of the deputies involved will not be released until the state’s investigation has concluded.
