The Monday night Kewanee City Council meeting was short, lasting approximately 10 minutes. There were no action items on the agenda, and the discussion on ordinance reviews was tabled to the next meeting because Keith Edwards was out sick and didn’t get the ordinances in the packet. Gary Bradley said the city has seen a significant decrease in the number of calls regarding LRS Trash and Recycling services. The city has not received any reports from LRS detailing the calls they received since they took over refuse collection in September 2024. Chris Colomer asked if LRS officials had met with the city as scheduled. City officials met with LRS as scheduled and have another in-person meeting scheduled for the end of this week.
Mayor Gary Moore responded to criticism he has received in his six years as the Mayor of Kewanee. Mayor Moore said, “I’m tired of being the punching bag I will accept the blame, but I will not apologize.” He said he has been blamed for the actions of others, including city employees. Mayor Moore said, “From this point forward, all city employees will be held to a standard that Kewanee deserves.” “I will not accept excuses; I want to see results.” Mayor Moore said he wants to see a plan for when West 6th Street will be resurfaced and stripping will be completed. Mayor Moore said they need to have a plan in place and “I don’t know will no longer be an option.”
Bock Inc. has reached 120 months without a lost-time injury. Mayor Moore said that 10 years without an accident that resulted in lost time is “very commendable.”
