MPD Responds To Shots Fired On N Johnson St

UPDATE (11/08/23): The MPD issued a release on Tuesday evening announcing that they have arrested Herman L. Hill, 38. Hill has been charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and is currently being held in McDonough County Jail. As the investigation unfolds, more charges could be filed.

The victim has been reported to be in stable condition.


MACOMB, IL – Officers responded to a report of shots fired early Tuesday morning near North Johnson and West Pierce Street in Macomb.

According to a press release issued by Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer, a victim with multiple gunshot wounds was located near the front lobby door of the Macomb Police Department as the officers drove to the scene. Officers gathered information and gathered information from the victim as they awaited rescue assistance to transport the victim to McDonough District Hospital (MDH).

On arrival, MDH was placed into lockdown and security was heightened as a precaution. The victim has since been life-flighted to a trauma center.

Officers arrived on the scene of the shooting and began the investigation by questioning the suspected lone shooter who was on scene. Detectives have been actively collecting evidence by inspecting the scene in addition to completing a neighborhood canvas.

Police also alerted St. Paul’s School about the incident and the ongoing investigation, to which St. Paul’s instituted a soft lockdown during morning class arrival time. The lockdown was precautionary and there was no danger to the St. Paul’s campus at any time.

Macomb Police have identified this as an isolated incident. The investigation remains activeThis is an active investigation and information will be weighed carefully before being released. They have stated that they will be releasing more information as it comes into focus.
