In a move to enhance security and transparency, the City Council of Galesburg passed a new ordinance on May 6th aimed at regulating door-to-door sales activities. Effective immediately, all peddlers and hawkers must obtain a picture ID badge from the city clerk’s office before engaging in sales. This measure ensures that sellers are easily identifiable, and their credentials are verified by the Police Department. With a rising number of complaints about aggressive sales tactics, particularly from energy suppliers and solar panel installers, this ID badge signifies a verified seller, though residents are advised to remain cautious, particularly with sharing personal information. The policy intends to safeguard residents from potential scams and unverified solicitors. Sales activities are restricted to between 9 AM and 7 PM, and residents are encouraged to report any suspicious or unauthorized solicitation to the Galesburg Police Department at 309-343-4181 or the City Clerk’s office at 309-345-3600.
