Starting January 1, 2025, Illinois will enforce a new requirement for all employers to issue detailed pay stubs to their employees. This new legislation mandates that each pay stub clearly outline hours worked, pay rates, overtime compensation, and any deductions made. Illinois Department of Labor Director Jane Flanagan highlighted that this move aims to increase wage transparency, empowering workers to verify their income and deductions accurately. Moreover, employers are obligated to keep copies of pay stubs for three years. Employees and ex-employees can request their pay history up to twice a year. For further inquiries, contact details are provided on the Illinois Department of Labor’s website.
“This law gives employees greater transparency about their earnings, allowing workers to verify their hours, income, and deductions,” said Illinois Department of Labor Director Jane Flanagan.
