Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley, Illinois, has announced its 2024 season opening for Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The opening follows extensive restoration efforts due to a heavy snowfall that caused significant damage to the zoo’s facilities and animal habitats. “The zoo staff is working hard to prepare for visitors since heavy snowfall in January caused significant damage to facilities and infrastructure.” While some areas remain closed, visitors are invited to explore the zoo at discounted admission rates.

Niabi Zoo suffered damage to some enclosures from the 25 inches of wet snow in January.  Insurance will cover some of the repairs, and the public can also support Niabi Zoo by making donations to aid the restoration efforts through the Niabi Zoo Foundation.  Donations are accepted here. “With a contribution to the Foundation, 100% of the funds will benefit the recovery effort and build a better Niabi for generations to come.”
