One Person and Pet Injured in Early Morning Fire

A Kewanee resident and their pet were injured in an overnight fire. The Kewanee Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of East 2nd Street at 4:05 AM on January 19, 2024. Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a working fire in the basement and first floor. Prior to fire department arrival, the Kewanee Police Department rescued the occupant of the residence, who was suffering from smoke inhalation. The resident was transported to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center by ambulance.

The Kewanee Fire Department rescued one pet from the residence, which is being treated at a local veterinarian clinic. Fire crews remained at the scene for approximately three hours. 1-800-Board-Up assisted the resident with securing the home.  There is extensive fire, smoke, and heat damage to the house.

The Kewanee Fire Department was assisted by the Kewanee Police Department, the Kewanee Community Fire Protection District, Stark County Ambulance Service, Kewanee Public Works, and Ameren.
