    The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Orion School Board Selects Chad Bahnks as New Superintendent

Orion, IL — The Orion School Board has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Chad Bahnks as the next Superintendent of the Orion Community Unit School District #223. Following a thorough selection process, Mr. Bahnks emerged as the candidate who best embodied the district’s priorities of instructional leadership, financial understanding, ethical decision-making, and student-focused vision.

Mr. Bahnks has served as principal of Orion Middle School since 2021, where he has demonstrated strong leadership, dedication, and integrity. His commitment to student success and staff collaboration stood out during the interview process and played a key role in his selection.

Mr. Bahnks will assume the Superintendent role following the retirement of Mr. Joe Blessman on June 30, 2026. The Board expressed its gratitude for Mr. Blessman’s years of service and looks forward to a smooth and positive leadership transition.

“We are confident that Mr. Bahnks will continue to move the district forward and build on our strong foundation,” the Board shared. “His student-centered approach and proven leadership make him the right choice for Orion.”

This transition marks a new chapter for District #223, one that emphasizes stability, growth, and continued commitment to educational excellence in the Orion community.
