Local animal shelters are facing a heart-wrenching dilemma as they struggle with capacity and financial constraints. With daily requests for animal surrenders, shelters like The Henry County Humane Society in Geneseo can’t always extend the help needed, forcing pet owners into tough positions. This situation has led to the distressing act of pets being abandoned unlawfully, like the recent incident where a dog was left tied outside our facility. This case is under police investigation. The Geneseo Police Department thanked the public for the “overwhelming assistance” to this dog being abandoned at the shelter. They have located the owner of the dog. Despite these challenges, the spirit of giving remains strong. Our community’s continued support through donations is invaluable. We remain committed to advocating for resources and education to ensure pets have a forever home amidst financial adversities.
