The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a two-night closure of Interstate 80 in Bureau County, starting March 25, 2024, from 8 PM to 6 AM. The closure will accommodate the setting of beams for the 470 East Road bridge near Sheffield. The westbound lanes will be closed between Highway 78 (exit 33) and Highway 40 (exit 45) on Wednesday, March 25th. The eastbound lanes will be closed on Thursday, March 26th. Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged to avoid the work zone. The construction is part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, aiming to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck in the coming years.
