Pizza Price Dispute at Kewanee Gas Station Leads to Three Arrests and Criminal Charges

SHARE NOW

Authorities in Kewanee responded to a civil dispute at a Cenex gas station on September 10, 2025, involving Nakeita Simpson of Elgin and store staff over a disputed pizza price. Nakeita Simpson, 33, challenged the staff over a pizza price she believed was a dollar too high. An officer even offered to cover the disputed dollar in an attempt to settle the disagreement, but tensions persisted.

Authorities say Kianna Simpson, 27, and Diamond Lockhart, 18, both of Kewanee, and Nakeita Simpson became agitated as officers explained the situation was a civil matter. After a store clerk requested their removal, tensions flared further—Nakeita Simpson reportedly damaged a merchandise display, causing several items to break. When officers attempted an arrest, the three reportedly obstructed law enforcement and became physically combative, pushing and striking officers and damaging police equipment. Despite their resistance, all three were eventually taken into custody.

Formal charges, including aggravated battery to a police officer, obstruction, and resisting, have been filed. All three were transported to the Henry County Jail and released on September 11th on pretrial release. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 22nd at 1 PM at the Henry County Courthouse.
