The Bureau County Farm Bureau hosted State Legislators on August 31st as part of the Adopted Legislator Program.  State Representative Mary Beth Canty (54th District), Senator Tom Bennett (53rd District) and Representative Ryan Spain (73rd District) joined the Bureau County Farm Bureau for presentations and education on Agriculture and rural life in Illinois.  The goal of the program is to educate Legislators about agriculture, which is Illinois’s largest industry, and rural life.  The program also helps Farm Bureau members understand the needs and concerns of an urban district.

Royal Super Mart in Sheffield. Christopher Anderson of Prairie State Tractor was on hand to speak about technology in ag and Ken Brummel was able to join us to speak about the EMT shortages in rural Illinois.

William Anderson of Cornbelt Ag Services shares information about ongoing projects at the research farm. During the tour she was able drive a tractor guided by GPS and discuss the advances in technology within the industry.
Elizabeth Pratt of Cornerstone Community Wellness and Dr. Timmothy Pratt share their story about the Royal Super Mart in Sheffield with Representative Canty. Representative Canty had a special interest in this tour as earlier this summer her Grocery Initiative Act was passed. This new law aimed at combating food insecurity by making financial assistance available to grocery stores located in areas designated as food deserts.
A special thank you to the Bureau Valley FFA Chapter members for showing Representative Canty, Representative Spain and Senator Bennett around the school. The tour consisted of a look at the school, a visit to the chapter’s new livestock center and a discussion with the ag instructors within the program.
