    Peak afternoon heat indices between 100 to 105 degrees expected.

    Portions of north central, northwest, and west central Illinois, east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri.

    IMPACTS
    Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Heat impacts will be worsened by several consecutive days of sweltering temperatures. Additionally, there will be little relief overnight with near record warm lows forecast in the mid to upper 70s.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Bureau County United Way Begins their 2024 Campaign with New Leadership

The new leadership at the Bureau County United Way will kick off the 2024 fundraising campaign from 11 AM to 1 PM Friday, September 22nd at Soldiers and Sailors Park with Lunch in the Park. “The Bureau County United Way Board of Directors are excited to announce that Christopher Neahring has been hired as Executive Director and Kim Shute as Director of Public Relations for the organization,” BCUW Board President Sara Hudson announced.

Christopher Neahring most recently was the Interim Director of the Illinois Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs in Springfield IL, leading the grant management team. Kim Shute comes to the BCUW with a decade of media experience, having worked as a journalist for Miller and Shaw Media companies.

“We wish to thank (outgoing Executive Director) Victoria Yepsen for her leadership these past 3 years,” Hudson said. “With Victoria at the helm, we were able to meet our annual goals, even at the height o COVID with all the restrictions and challenges that presented.”

“As we move forward, we are excited to work with Chris and Kim who will bring their own unique ideas and leadership to the Bureau County United Way,” Hudson said. “We encourage everyone to come out to Lunch in the Park to meet them both.”
