The Friends of the Hennepin Canal monthly hike is on November 19, 2023, and runs between Bridge 62 and Lock 22. The hike is 4.7 miles and has been named “Red Winged Blackbird”. Hikers should meet at Lock 22 at 1:30 PM and a shuttle bus will take you to Bridge 62 to begin the hike. Take Route 6, west from Sheffield for about 3.5 miles or east from Mineral for about 1.5 miles, to County Highway 300 East. Watch for the Lock 22 signs. The Friends of the Hennepin Canal developed the monthly hikes as an opportunity for everyone to get to know the Canal personally by hiking it from the Illinois River to the Mississippi (including the Feeder Canal) in small legs.
