Festival 56 has two more shows opening after the final performance by Million Dollar Quartet. Significant Other performs on July 1, 2023, at 7:30 PM at the Prairie Arts Center and Twelfth Night performs on July 5th at 7:30 PM in Soldiers and Sailors Park.
Significant Other by Joshua Harmon is a critically acclaimed Broadway comedy/drama that chronicles one man’s search for love while his closest friends are slipping away, one by one. Jordan Berman would love to be in love, but that’s easier said than done. So until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close girlfriends. But as singles’ nights turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan discovers that the only thing harder than finding love is supporting the loved ones around you when they do. Significant Other opened off-Broadway in 2015 and transferred to Broadway for a limited run in 2017. The New York Times called the play “a tenderly unromantic romantic comedy, as richly funny as it is ultimately heart-stirring”. Festival 56’s production opens at the Prairie Arts Center, 24 Park Avenue East in Princeton at 7:30 pm on Saturday, July 1st. Additional performances are 2 PM matinees on July 2nd and July 5th, and 7:30 PM performances July 6th through 8th. Tickets are available at the box office at the Grace Theater, 316 S. Main Street (open noon to 5 at, Tuesday through Saturday and one hour before performances), by calling 815-879-5656, or through the Festival 56 website www.festival56.com.
Uncooperative weather during the production process has pushed the opening of Festival 56’s free outdoor production of Shakespeare’s fast-paced romantic comedy Twelfth Night from Sunday to Wednesday, July 5th. This summer’s production is set in the Old West, mixing the classic interweaving plots of love, mistaken identities, and practical jokes with gunslingers and swinging saloon doors. Separated from her twin brother Sebastian, Viola disguises herself as a boy, calling herself Cesario. She becomes a servant to the Duke Orsino, who sends her to woo the Countess Olivia on his behalf. But the Countess falls in love with Cesario instead! Meanwhile Olivia’s raucous uncle, Sir Toby Belch, and his cohorts play a trick on the uptight Malvolio, Olivia’s steward, who is secretly in love with her. When Viola’s twin, Sebastian, turns up, even more confusion, chaos and hijinks erupt in this lighthearted comedy. A brief introduction to the play will be provided just before each performance. Twelfth Night will be presented in Soldiers and Sailors Park in Princeton at 7:30 pm Sunday and Wednesday nights through Wednesday, August 2nd. Again, there is no charge for Twelfth Night, but lawn chairs and bug spray are recommended!
