A 13-year-old is dead after his off-road vehicle collided with an SUV in rural Manilus. The Bureau County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Backbone Road and 2300 North Avenue on July 12, 2023, around 7:13 PM. According to Sheriff James Reed, a Jeep driven by a 61-year-old female was traveling North on Backbone Road when she struck an off-road vehicle driven by a 13-year-old male. The teenage was pronounced deceased on the scene. Names are withheld pending notification of the family and completion of the investigation.
The Bureau County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Bureau County Coroner, Manlius Fire Department and EMS, Sheffield EMS, Walnut EMS, Buda Police Department and the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstructionist.
