A Search Warrant executed at a residence in Rutland recovers weapons, ammunition and body armor. Investigators with the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office and Woodford County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence of David Mays on December 11, 2022. The search warrant was obtained as part of an investigation into illegal firearms. According to Sheriff Adam Diss, Investigators recovered a shotgun, AKS 762 Rifle, AR-15 Style Rifle, Ammunition and body armor at David Mays’s residence in Rutland.
On December 10, 2022, David Allen Mays, 42, of Rutland was arrested in Woodford County and charged with Armed Violence (Class X Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Class 2 Felony), Possession of a Defaced Firearm (Class 3 Felony) and Possession of Meth <5 Grams (Class 2 Felony). Mays is held at the Woodford County Jail on a $1,000,000 (10%) bond. A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for January 6, 2023, at 9 AM. Additional Charges from the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office will be filed upon completion of the investigation.
Mays previously served a 19 year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Attempted Murder in LaSalle County in January, 2003.
