Prophetstown Man Sentenced for Arson at a Reproductive Health Clinic

On Monday, February 5th, a Prophetstown man, Philip J. Buyno, aged 73, was sentenced by United States District Judge Colin S. Bruce to five years in prison and a further three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay restitution of over $327,000. This comes after he pleaded guilty to employing fire in an effort to destroy a facility designated for interstate commerce. On May 20, 2023, Buyno attempted to drive his vehicle, armed with gas-filled containers, into a building slated for use as a reproductive health clinic. Authorities found him trapped in his vehicle at the scene of the crime.
