Parents of Kewanee and Galva students have an opportunity to sign up for the Shoes for Kids program tonight at Central, Irving, and Galva schools. Free shoes will be provided to qualifying children. Eligibility requirements include attendance at a Kewanee school (PreK through 8th grade) or any grade in Galva schools, and families must qualify for SNAP or Medicaid. Each family may apply for up to three children. The final day to submit applications is August 13, 2025.

The Kewanee Area United Way has launched its Shoes for Kids program for the fall 2025 semester, giving a boost to local families in need. Qualifying families with up to three children from preschool through eighth grade can now register at designated schools in Galva, Kewanee, and Wethersfield. To be eligible, students must attend one of these schools and have received approval for Medicaid or SNAP benefits. The initiative aims to ensure that every child starts the school year with a new pair of shoes, supporting both comfort and confidence as students head back to class.
