State Rep. Travis Weaver Applauds Senate’s not moving forward with redistricting in Illinois

Pekin, IL – State Representative Travis Weaver (R-Peoria) has issued a statement following the Senate’s decision not to move forward with a constitutional amendment (HJRCA 28) related to redistricting priorities. This decision means the amendment will not be included on the ballot for voters this coming November.

“Today, common sense won out for one of the few times in Illinois politics. Speaker Welch and House Democrats were attempting to strengthen their corruption and power with their proposed constitutional amendment on redistricting. We cannot prioritize politicians picking their voters and choosing who they represent. Instead of disenfranchising millions of Illinois voters, we must fight to protect their rights and work to draw fair legislative maps where voters are able to choose their representatives. Our future democracy is at stake, and extreme partisan gerrymandering must be eliminated.”

Rep. Travis Weaver serves Illinois House District 93. For more information, please visit “Representative Weaver’s website” or contact the District Office at 309-204-6514.
