State Representative Dan Swanson’s efforts to advance public health and safety have resulted in three new state laws. Among them, Senate Bill 1814 focuses on educating health care professionals about the rare and life-threatening Amniotic Fluid Embolism, aiming to improve rapid diagnosis and treatment during pregnancy. The measure also requires local health departments to notify the public of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever cases. Further legislation affects the definition of fire department vehicles and clarifies statutes tied to veterans. Swanson had a total of six bills signed into law this summer, covering topics from firefighter education to tick-borne illnesses and state auction regulations.
“AFE can strike suddenly and is extremely dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn child if proper medical care is not quickly administered,” Swanson said. “But because it is such a rare condition too much time can pass before it is properly diagnosed. This legislation will help to change that.”
