Retired educators in Bureau County are invited to gather at the Princeton Public Library on Wednesday, September 17th, starting at noon, for the next Bureau County Retired Teachers Association meeting. The event kicks off with a catered luncheon from Park Tavern, featuring chicken casserole and dessert. The Illinois Retired Teachers Association will unveil its meeting program at 12:30 pm, with IRTA President Mike Schmidt leading the presentation. Schmidt brings a rich background to the role, having previously chaired both the association’s constitution and membership committees at the state level and holding key positions in the local Blackhawk Unit. His teaching career at United Township High School spanned subjects from American history to radio and TV speech. Schmidt holds degrees from Morningside College and Roosevelt University. He and his wife, Jane, make their home in Moline, celebrating fifty years of marriage this year.
Reservations are open for this month’s catered luncheon at the Park Tavern, featuring a menu of chicken casserole, sides, dessert, and a selection of beverages. Those wishing to attend should contact Connie Espel at 815-303-8982 or by email at [email protected] no later than September 10th. Attendees have the option to join both the luncheon and the program or simply the program. Please remember, if you reserve a meal but are unable to make it, reimbursement of $15 to the Unit is required. Retired colleagues and spouses are encouraged to join in the gathering.
The Bureau County Retired Teachers have launched a new Facebook page, offering regular updates relevant to local retired educators. Members and interested community members are encouraged to search for and follow the page to stay up-to-date with the latest news, events, and opportunities. Any questions or comments can be directed to Bonnie Driver at 815-915-8470 or by emailing [email protected]. The group hopes to foster a greater sense of community among retired teachers throughout the county.
