Road updates for January 13th-14th, 2024

Travel remains dangerous and is not advised in most of the area due to strong winds causing snow to further drift. There are many areas where the police are not able to reach you if you become stranded. According to scanner traffic, Henry County OEM is assisting with stranded motorists that need a warm place to stay for the night.

It is each persons responsibility to check on road conditions before driving on the roads during inclement weather.  Check Illinois winter road conditions here.

From Osco road commissioner… Since we don’t have a page Osco town ship will be closing the following roads for a few days 900 e from 1700 to 1800 part of 800east be from the first driveway to 1800 also looks like I will be shutting 700st from first drive way off 1500 to 1400.  11 AM 1/14/24

Toulon Police advise residents to stay home due to the road conditions and extreme cold

County Highway 5 (Galva-Atkinson Blacktop) north of State Highway 81 is totally blocked by a semi and disabled vehicle. A Deputy is headed there to pick up the semi driver and take him someplace warm.  Inces Towing is going to attempt to get the semi unstuck.  9:50 PM  Semi truck is stuck for the night 10:50 PM

OEM and HCSO have placed a sign off I-80 on Highway 82 this afternoon that travel is not advised due to road conditions.

The Henry County Highway Department pulled snow plows at 7 PM and will resume at 6 AM.

County Highway 30 (South Woodhull Blacktop) is closed from Highway 17 to County line due to road conditions.  The highway department will attempt to reopen the road on Sunday or Monday

Most Townships in our area pulled plows this afternoon until the wind calms down, which is expected around midnight.

IDOT snow plows can’t keep up with the drifting snow and are further hindered by abandoned stuck vehicles.

Stark County advises against travel in Stark County because snow can’t keep up with the drifting.

Knox County also strongly advises again traveling in Knox County because of road conditions.  Tow services are suspended outside Galesburg city limits and emergency services are limited.

Bureau County advised against non-essential travel.

Don’t forget to clear around the vent pipes on the outside of your residence to avoid carbon monoxide building up in your house and carefully uncover  utility meters.
