In a somber discovery along the Rock River, a fossil hunter stumbled upon human remains Tuesday in Oregon. The location, identified as the 4300 block of North Illinois Route 2, became a center of activity as officials were called to the scene. Forensic experts, after reviewing dental records, identified the deceased as 23-year-old Carter McGowan, who had been reported missing from Rockford since January 2024.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Oregon Fire District and the Ogle County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding McGowan’s disappearance and death, urging anyone with information to come forward.
