Sterling City Manager Scott Shumard has named David Northcutt as the next Fire Chief of the Sterling Fire Department, with the appointment effective April 30, 2025.
Northcutt brings more than two decades of fire service experience, having served as Deputy Chief in Sterling and previously as a Captain in Rock Falls. He also leads MABAS Division 30, teaches fire science, and is a US Army veteran. Northcutt’s leadership will focus on expanded training, professionalism, and collaboration with nearby departments. City officials credit his service and mentorship for preparing him well to lead Sterling’s fire services into the future.
