    Very cold wind chills as low as 20 to 30 below.
    WHERE
    Portions of north central and northwest Illinois and east central and southeast Iowa.
    WHEN
    Until noon CST today.
    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Cop on a Rooftop

The 21st annual “Cop on a Rooftop” started today, Friday, May 17th, at 5am.  Law enforcement officials are be stationed at more than 300 participating Dunkin’ locations across Illinois collecting money for Special Olympics Illinois. Whiteside County Sheriff John Booker along with community officers and deputies were on duty at Dunkin’ Donuts in Rock Falls.

Special Olympics Illinois, a not-for-profit organization, provides year-round sports training and competition for over 55,000 participants. This initiative helps empower athletes, coaches, and volunteers through 18 different sports, promoting inclusion and the joy of sport across the community.
